Questions about our Media Program
When do students attend media?
All VES students visit our Library Media Center once a week for 1 hour during the related arts block. Students may also check out books every day before school and at dismissal, with the permission of their classroom teachers.
What do students learn in media?
HCPSS Media Curriculum:
How many books can students check out?
- Students in kindergarten and 1st grade may check out 1 book at a time.
- Students in 2nd grade, 3rd grade,4th grade and 5th grade may check out 2 books at a time.
- Students have the opportunity to check out additional books when working on research projects..
Books are checked out for 2 weeks, with the option of 1 renewal for 2 more weeks. Overdue notices are sent home if a book is not returned or renewed by the end of the 2 week period.
What happens if the book is lost or damaged?
The replacement price of a book will be listed on the overdue notice. If the book is lost, we ask that you make a payment towards the replacement in order to allow your child to continue to check out. If the book is damaged beyond repair, we also ask that you pay for a replacement. If a payment is made and the book is found, a refund will be issued. Also, we do not charge overdue fines, so once an overdue book is returned, no payment is required.
